Welcome to District 35-O Lions Project : Right To Sight, Inc.
This project, founded in 1990, fulfills one of the main objectives of the International Lions Club...that is, to sponsor and promote programs that deal with Sight Preservation and the Fight Against Blindness. This project combines the group efforts of the Lions Clubs and Eye Care Professionals to provide reconditioned, recycled eye glasses, at NO COST, to homeless and uninsured people living in our Central Florida Community. Eye glasses are also provided for Vision Projects to aid people in need throughout the world. Team members for these Vision Projects consist of Eye Care Professionals, members of the Lions Clubs and lay persons, who work together to provide eye examinations and dispense reconditioned, recycled eye glasses to those in need...all at no cost to the recipient.
On May 18th in a joint effort the Project Right to Sight team, Oviedo-Winter Springs Lions, and the Ocoee Lions hosted an Eyeglass Sorting event. We had help from 41 Lions and volunteers from 10 District 35-O Loins Clubs and Windermere High School. Over 30,000 donated items were sorted into categories such as, eyeglasses, readers, prescription sun glasses, regular sun glasses, hard and soft cases, and reusable pieces. Once sorted they were boxed to be sent to the next step in processing. These items were donated from various people, organizations, and groups around Florida. The end result will be to get these items to people that need them but can't afford them otherwise.
Additionally, Project Right to Sight hosted tours of the eyeglass warehouse. This allowed the volunteers and Lions to get a chance to see the fruits of their labor.
Everyone had fun and enjoyed working in unity to serve the community. We thank all of the volunteers and Lions that came out to assist with this event. "We Serve".
The sorting event was featured in clickorlando.com on May 23rd. Click here to read the article.
